The White House Surgery is a long established semi-rural practice whose emphasis lies in the provision of high quality family medicine and teaching.
The teaching role of the Practice provides an excellent learning environment in which qualified general practitioners can gain expertise of general practice, and be assessed under the guidance of the Practices’ accredited GP Trainer. The Practice also provides training for medical students undergoing their clinical training.
GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors who wish to further their experience in General Practice and gain recognition of their training through working towards a formal qualification in this important area. The Practice provides an excellent learning environment in which qualified general practitioners (Registrars) can further their expertise of general practice. Registrars are continually assessed under the guidance of the Practices’ accredited GP Trainers. We are pleased to say that many of our ex-Registrars keep in touch with the Practice and have gone on to have very successful careers in General Practice.
The Practice provides pre-qualification General Practice training for Medical Students who are in their (final) 5th year of training. Patients may be offered a consultation with the Medical Student. A consultation with the Medical Student will be under the direct supervision of one of the Practices’ qualified doctors. Whilst the doctor may not be in the consulting room for the consultation, the medical student will explain the diagnosis and treatment to the doctor. The doctor will always ensure that he agrees with the diagnosis and treatment before a final decision is made. Patients are not obliged to see the Medical Student and may decline if they wish.
Part of the training process for medical students and GP trainees, involves consultations with patients under the direct supervision of a Doctor. Prior to your consultation you may be asked whether you mind having your consultation videoed. If you agree, you will be asked to sign a form of agreement. You may rest assured that the video is only seen by the doctors in the assessment process. The video is then used by the trainee and trainer as a very important part of the teaching and learning process.
